Did you know? Approximately 15% of heat loss in the home is from the heat escaping through the floor into the ground. Think of all that money that's going to waste.

To help prevent this insulating material can be secured beneath the floorboards which help retain the heat in the home. By installing underfloor insulation not only will it help prevent heat loss, but will also prevent draughts from coming up through the floorboards.

Reasons To Choose Underfloor Insulation

A perfect solution for thermal efficiency

Introducing underfloor insulation into your property means that your home going to be more thermally efficient. This means that it will be able to retain desirable temperatures all year round organically, without the excessive need for heaters and coolers.

A perfect solution for smaller energy bills

By reducing the use of heaters and air conditioning units, we expect that you'll benefit from smaller bills from your gas and electricity companies. Translated as more money in your back pocket and a great way to recoup your investment in underfloor insulation.

The perfect solution with climate change

Using less gas and/or electricity can help preserve our planet’s natural resources. There's a climate emergency & homes across the globe are already using more resources than we need. Underfloor insulation can reduce the use of artificial heating & cooling devices.

The perfect solution for letting cold air enter through the floor

Cracks and holes in floorboards allow cold air to creep in through the floor, making a the home colder in winter. Underfloor insulation creates a layer between external temperatures and your floorboards, which prevents air from entering.

  • Why underfloor insulation?

Underfloor insulation is one of the most effective and efficient ways of improving your home’s warmth and general comfort. As it’s all under the floor, you don’t have to worry about unsightly mess, either. You may also have your walls and ceiling insulated, but many people neglect to insulate under their floor. When you consider that up to 20% of your heating gets lost through the floor, however, you can see why it can be such a valuable investment in your home, and provide such an increase in your quality of life.

Underfloor insulation is totally non-invasive, in as much as once it’s done, you’ll never have to think about it again. It’s far less invasive that wall and ceiling insulation, yet remains highly effective.

  • How do you qualify for the underfloor insulation grant?

If your home was built later than the 1980’s it’s unlikely you will qualify, as most houses built afterwards will have solid concrete floors. If your home is built on a slope or has a basement/cellar, you have a high likelihood of successfully applying.

Note that at least 1M of underfloor headroom is required, as is hatch access. Underfloor insulation must be applicable to at least two third’s of the house’s footprint, and you must receive the EC03 benefit.

You must also be an occupying homeowner, and the property needs to be located in England, Scotland, or Wales and gas heated. If you have already had UFI in the past, you may be eligible to have it updated.

  • Am I eligible for free Underfloor Insulation?

Under the new ECO 3 scheme, you are likely to be eligible for 100% funding if you are in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:
    • Universal Credit• Income-based Job Seekers Allowance• Income Support• Income-based Employment and Support Allowance• Attendance Allowance• Constant Attendance Allowance• Carer’s Allowance• Child and Working Tax Credits• Disability Living Allowance• Personal Independence Payment• Severe Disablement Allowance• Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefits• Armed Forces Independence Payment• War Pensions Mobility Supplement• Regular child benefit, depending on income and number of dependants

  • Is my house suitable?

Before applying for the grant you need to determine if your property is suitable for underfloor insulation or not – if your home has a cellar, basement, or underground crawlspace you will likely have a suitable floor. Similarly, if your home is built on a slope, it also has a high chance of qualifying.

Suspended timber ground floors are common in older homes – this is where the floorboards rest over the joists, which can cause them to lose a large amount of heat. Air/ventilation bricks on the exterior walls can also indicate you might qualify. To be sure, however, you will need a full survey.
